Nitpicker's Guide to Sarang's Pages
Welcome to the Nitpicker's Guide to Sarang's Pages. Modelled as a
parody on my Unofficial Nitpickers' Home
Page, this page includes mistakes and peculiarities on my own
pages. In some cases, I simply correct mistakes on my pages, instead
of posting them here; sometimes I'll do both.
- Hume Smith (hclsmith@tallships.istar.ca) notes that my "Some
distortion due to Riemann Theorem" comment on Zooming Star Map is not only
uninformative, but inaccurate. I was attempting to cite the theorem
that states a sphere cannot be mapped onto a plane without distortion;
the Riemann Mapping Theorem (not just 'Riemman Theorem') states that
any two simply connected regions in the plane can be conformally mapped
to each other, provided neither or both is the plane itself. I
confused the Riemann Theorem with the Riemann Sphere, and what I
actually needed was closer to (but not precisely) the converse
of the Riemann Mapping Theorem. That's what I get for trying to be a smartass!
- Barbara Shaddix (bshaddix@students.uwf.edu) points out that in my
Personality Page, I confuse
schitzophrenia with multiple personality disorder. Actually (believe
it or not), I knew the two were not the same, but since most people
think they are identical and the joke is less funny with "multiple
personality disorder", I decided to write it that way. Barbara did,
however, point out this gaffe before I could 'confess', so she
deserves credit for spotting this one.
